When you say you’re gonna do something, you’d better do it. If you don’t, you’ll lose people’s respect. Go all-in! It’s not gonna work if you’re holding back in your mind. Stretching your comfort zone is scary and painful. But then afterwards it’s just awesome! Preparation is sooo important! Gotta put in the ‘behind the scenes’ prep work! That’s where the battle is won. I noticed that as I made progress in this one area, I started making progress in other areas too. It started a positive cycle. Run your own race. Never try to match someone else’s pace. Trust yourself and do it just like you practiced. Be patient. Let people pass you up in the short term. Those dudes who were sprinting in the first 5 kms are going to be dying when t...

It's been said those are the hardest words to say in any language. I believe they are also the two words with the power to change everything. In June 2010, American baseball teams Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers played a game that has gone down in history, but not for the reason you'd expect. It has been called the "perfect game robbery". Background: Since 1900, nearly four hundred thousand baseball games have been played in the United States. During this span, only 18 times has a pitcher delivered "a perfect game", getting each batsman out, in order, without any batsman reaching a single base. To put this in perspective, the odds of a perfect game being thrown in baseball (one in twenty thousand) are far smaller than t...

Whitney Houston, and you. (From http://sethrosario.tumblr.com/) Tributes pour in from all over the world in honor of the late Whitney Houston, the legendary soul singer who inspired millions. “There are so few people like her in the world. They are a rarefied breed.” - Simon Cowell (The mean judge guy from American Idol) In 2009, the Guinness World Records cited her as the most-awarded female act of all time. She was the only artist to chart seven consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits and the second artist behind Elton John to have two number-one Billboard 200 Album awards. Despite her choices later in life, her music continues to encourage and inspire hundreds of thousands of people around the world.  Here are three thing...

Muster the nerve!             - How to live with a passion for excellence! It has been said that a passion for excellence carries a price. Simply put, that means: The adventure of excellence is not for the faint of heart. Excellence is a personal commitment. (for more on commitment, click here.) Whether you're looking at a billion-dollar corporation or a three-person accounting department, you see that excellence is achieved by people who muster up the nerve (and the passion) to step out in spite of doubt or fear or job limitations. They don't hide behind office doors, committees, memos, or layers of staff; they understand that stepping out and stepping forward is the fair bargain they make for extraordinary results. How can ...

What a concept! If you’re looking for success, fulfillment, happiness, that’s a good starting place: Kick your own butt! What does this mean? It means that if you want to achieve success in life, in any endeavor, it’s going to require self discipline. Success is not synonymous with free time and taking life as it comes. If you want success, if you want to reach your goals—to mature, to grow, to pursue professional mastery, to ultimately carry the torch; to make a difference—then it’s up to you, and ONLY you! If you never seem to be reaching your goals, or worse, if you don’t have any clear goals and are tired of your boss, spouse or friend nagging you to do more with your time—your life; if it’s driving you crazy, then you can do...

Just finished reading "Man's Search for Meaning" by Dr. Viktor Frankl. Honestly, the book blew me away! I'm young and impulsive and sometimes cannot see the meaning behind difficult times. The deep paradigm shift that I had while reading this book has changed my life! Although everything Dr. Frankl loved was torn away from him, he discovered that life was still worth living, and still held meaning, even in his suffering. One of my favorite parts is when he talks about hosting a therapy session in which he encounters two women: "One was the mother of a boy who had died at age 11. She had come to me after a suicide attempt. At the death of her younger son she was left with her older son who was crippled, suffing from the effect...

This year … I’ll take more time to laugh and smile, To feel the wind upon my face, To learn true wisdom from a child, Give my soul the needed space, To live life pure and clear … … this year. This year … I’ll learn to turn off my computer, Interact with human beings, Spend less time in online stupor, More time learning, breathing, seeing All that life holds dear … … this year. This year … I will resolve to write that letter That I have too long neglected, Make an aching heart feel better, Cheer a friend who feels dejected, Bring someone some cheer … … this year. This year … I’ll not be hijacked by my deadlines, Or imprisoned by ambitions. Or let dismal, gloomy headlines Dictate my heart’s disposition. I’ll c...

Just read Christopher Rattenbury's post "Faith in Mankind". Very insightful and well written! I watched a movie recently called "Invasion", where people become emotion-less zombies after contracting a certain virus. The infected people are uncontrollably urged to spread the virus to every human on earth. The heroine runs and fights through the entire movie to remain human. The logic of the humans-turned-zombies is perfect -- no more emotions means no more wars, no more jealousy or anger. Still, she fights with everything within her to remain human, and protect her son from the same fate. When she finally succeeds in reaching safety and the cure is found, the movie ends with one very interesting line: "For better or worse, we...

Today I co-delivered a leadership workshop. It lasted for three hours. Together with the attendees, we danced, guessed, played, brainstormed, jumped around, appreciated each other and laughed...A LOT! All 20 of the attendees were between the ages of 7-10 years old. Interacting with people whose minds are so pure and clear and simple and fun was like a breath of fresh air in a stale and dusty room! During the last half hour we divided into teams of 5 and brainstormed around the question, "What can I do to make things better?" I'd like to share a few of the ideas that these kids came up with. The Friendship Bench. - A special, colourful bench where we can sit to become friends with each other. Ideal for new kids in school to b...

A little over a month ago, I was celebrating with a group of friends shortly after getting married. As the evening went on, and the conversation and drinks both started flowing, someone suddenly blurted out, "Hey, let's call John!" John was a friend of ours who used to be part of our group, but had moved to the other side of the world (Chile) with his wife and young daughter. We all agreed that we would love to talk to John. He was a great guy, and we were all his friends. So we called him. He was surprised and happy that we would call him, being many time zones away, and we all passed the phone around and talked to him for a bit. A few days later, during a conversation with another friend, we started talking about what had ma...
