I have been absent from Copperstrings for over a year. I feel badly that people have sent me messages and friend requests that I did not see so did not respond to. I apologize to all of you. I have had a difficult year. I am a caregiver to a disabled woman Veteran here in the US. Her health has been poor and my time has been divided between her medical needs and the care for my 30+ cats and my disabled puppies. I have also been dealing with inner turmoil related to my childhood, whihc has taken a great deal of my emotional energy. I hope to be a more consistent participant in the future, and I wish everyone well.

I was just realizing that it had been a long time since I participated in Copperstrings when I saw you post. Life has a way of pushing us into unwanted things and we ignore the real things that we want to do or that will help us.
Thank you for your post. It made me think about getting back to what I need to do for me.
I send healing for you too, and wish you internal peace.

Five people, many family members and friends lives changed forever yesterday

Your writing resonates with me Dave because I too have been there. Lost everything - homeless - no income - desperate - and the worst feeling is that no one really cares. Now through many struggles I too have a home and a warm bed and some (limited) income.
You wrote " Contrary to myth there is enough of everything to go around but there is an allocation problem." and this is OH SO TRUE. We could all live well if we as a nation/world spent less on warfare and more on our human family.

From Teenage Apathy to Activism
Posted at 06:22:25 PM on Jun 16, 2010
I have only just found this (which proves I need to spend more time browsing on here!).
I thought this was very informative and heart-lifting. Sadly though it also brings home the fact that News is always focused on the bad. We hear so much about teen drug addiction, teens causing mayhem at the mall, teens who beat up their parents and siblings. We never hear the stuff that Francesca has written about.
I know from my own experience in raising my daughters, that there are many many teens who are doings great things in their own way. Even though my girls did not do anything earth-shattering, they both contributed in different ways during their teen years. My elder daughter came out of college at 17 and opened her own photography studio. She is now a very successful photographer in Portland Oregon. My younger daughter began working in a dental office at 14 while she was being home-schooled and is now a full-time dental assistant, having challenged and passed the DANB exam at 17.
I wish we could hear more of this kind of inspiring news.
