So one of the biggest worries for some Mums is whether their child is doing Ok in comparison to other children around them.  Meanwhile, other Mums are full of the fact that they think that their child is better than everyone around them. But neither of these is possible, and over a number of blogs I hope to show you that all your kids are AS GREAT, but NOT BETTER than each other. First a story!  I was on holiday, and Max (3yrs) was wandering around the dance floor, chatting to the other kids and investigating the snake, spider (uuurgggh), lizard and skunk that the family entertainer had brought in.  A lovely Mum next to me turned round and said ‘Oh how lovely, your son is so confident.  I look at my little boy who always holds hims...

One of the things that I feel would enormously transform our world today, is if as women, especially Mums, we stood together, allowing and embracing our differences, rather than pulling each other apart.  Becoming a Mum has been the one where I most felt the judgement from around me, and most astonishingly much of it came from the Mums.  Now, I know that whilst some were judging, others were appreciating, and that is the way of the world.  However, I see ahead a potential where Mums learn in their security with each other to hear the wisdom of their own hearts, thus creating a strong foundation for their families to grow from.  And here’s why …. Whatever happens, we will always have different values.  Thats the point to life, because ...

Is TV the most awful invention of the human race, or the most amazing? Whilst sitting watching TV the other night - Ok, yes, I have admitted it, I am a sinner, I do own a TV and I do watch it! - I got inspired to write this journal and show how you can approach a question like this in a Demartini Stye. So, we all know the reasons why TV is considered 'Bad', but here's just a few: 1) There are better things that you 'should' be doing with your time, like reading, cooking, exercising and playing2) It's full of 'evil' marketing people trying to get us to buy stuff that we don't need and brainwashing us3) It turns us into a nation of sofa hugging fatties, who get mesmorised by hours of TV4) It's full of violence and encourages people to beha...

What's going on with the Credit Crunch? There are two factors to consider when viewing the credit crunch.  How it affects yourself, and how it affects those around you.  These might be very different, because you will not be necessarily affected in the same way.  So just because some might find it a difficult time, does not mean that you need to perceive it that way. How it will affect you is partially already decided, because wheels are in motion, you already have certain circumstances, jobs and health challenges and financial issues that are going to run their course.  But the most important decider is how you are going to decide to perceive it and when are you going to act? This can be your turning point.  The ...

So someone has offered you the most amazing opportunity to do something, and the question is - can you afford it? In all likelihood, if you are asking, the answer is likely to be no!  But lets look a little further and see ... Is it an opportunity to make money?   Yes, well that is great.  But can you afford to lose this amount?  Do you have a foundation of liquid savings as much as 2-3 months of your income.  Plus another layer of slightly less liquid savings of the same amount, for example in a savings account that doesn't have instant access or an ISA?  Will they be safe and sound if you take this opportunity?  If you don't, then you are not ready to take this option.  You haven't learnt how to manage money yet, and if you take this o...

So if self-sabotage doesn’t exist, then neither does resistance.   See my previous journal on self-sabotage - http://journals.copperstrings.com/UserConsole/ViewJournal.aspx?Title=DofL_Hints_%26_Tips_-_The_Illusion_of_Self-Sabotage&ArticleID=945 We are often advised to do things that would be ‘good for us’, and find ourselves resisting.  Why do we resist?  We resist because they are not in line with our current values or we don’t see them as in line. We may be listening to the wiser part of ourselves, that really knows our core values, and that although the advice issensible, it does not actually apply to us. We may be listening to values that wecurrently have that are based upon fear and guilt.  But they are still our values...

So the first thing is for me to break a huge myth in the personal development industry:   Self-sabotage does NOT exist. We do NOT self-sabotage.  Yes, you might have an underlyingbelief that you would love to make loads of money or lose weight, and also acontradictory belief that you do not deserve good things.  However, not achieving the goal is NOTself-sabotage.  So you can stopfeeling guilty right now for all the things that you think you did not doperfectly! Be respectful of yourself and your currentvalues, because you are perfect as you are right now, you were also perfectyesterday and will be perfect tomorrow. If things do not go to plan, then do yourself some credit and realizethat this is because your current values do n...

Aspect 3 - Eating Habits So, in the process of reading through these journals, I saw one glaring mistake - my Positive Affirmation should be:"I am Healthy, Fit, Curvy, and Toned", that way it clearly matches my values and the order in which I have naturally been working on this project. The next thing I decided to tackle was my 'drug of choice' - the dreaded sugar!  I was expecting to spend a couple of hours on it Max, but it led me on a journey that I was not expecting at all. First I described what the characteristic of sugar was to me - and found that there is a lusciousness in chocolate, and a momentary comfort.  Plus I realised that there appeared to be a fear of emptiness and darkness; hence I kept filling it up.  If you ever fancy...

Aspect 2 - Weight and FitnessMy next step was to make sure that I was inspired to become 'A Fit, Health, Toned, Curvy & Sexy size 12'. These exercises will ensure that you are inspired, versus motivated.  To be inspired takes little energy, when you are motivated, it still takes effort.  Plus if you have investigated the downsides, you are less likely to get blind-sided by problems that will get in the way of your success. BenefitsSo first I sat down and thought through the following questions - basically linking my objective with my highest values and what I love to do ... For each one I got 30 benefits(Quick hint - for each benefit you find, think to yourself, and' why would that be a benefit to me', and keep on until you move from 'kn...

Aspect 2 - Tackling Fitness My next step was to set my objective and measures for stage 2, which I am expecting to be about 4-6 weeks in total.  Did you know that 6 weeks are needed to start to fully integrate a change in being? I set an overall objective of being - A Fit, Healthy, Toned, Sexy & Curvy Size 12. It's important to be able to measure your progress in as many different ways as possible, whatever your goal is.The specific measures of mine are ...- 11 stone or less- Size 12 comfortably (versus tightly!)- Lung capacity increased from 400-500 flow- Fat% healthy (reduce by 2%)- BMI healthy (reduce by 2points)- Retain healthy water percentage - Getting back to a stage where I can jog for 30mins- Continual improvement of balance, fl...

A moral dilemma

Did you watch the program on the TV at the beginning of the week by a journalist/presenter who lived for 2 weeks without a home or money. Clearly his situation is contrived - however, there is more out there to help people than we might think sometimes. The last program is on friday I think.

In america there is quite a feeling of pride & choice in the people who are 'hobos' and live on the streets - I find that quite interestingly different to our attitude in the UK, but do wonder as to wether some people do 'choose' the freedom of the streets sometimes (some - not all).

If you ever do invite someone into your house, just remember to grill the hell out of them to discover their values - remember, you can trust people totally to live according to their values. If they have any addiction, then you can trust them to do whatever they can to fulfill it, it would be unfair to expect otherwise. (Plus, make sure you've taken a picture of them on your mobile, and sent it to a mate).

Big hugs to you - you old softie ;o)

I enjoyed it too Carl - I like reading journals with my breakfast, so they need to be quick to read, with some wisdom and a touch of humour. It's too close to bed-time for being lectured - I tend to fall back to sleep ;o)

LoL - yep Toot Sweets, Benny Hill, Barbara Windsor and 'Truly Scumptious' - a real classic - worst thing was I found I knew ALL the words ;o) I didn't realise it was written by Ian flemming until the weekend, or that it was produced by Broccoli - how bizarre!

LOL! I'm seeing a slight pattern Ian - maybe I shouldn't admit to being a terrible gardener?!!

I was horrified to find myself snivelling when watching 'chitty, chitty, bang, bang' with my little 2 3/4yr old on sunday. Fascinating though that the 'old classics' still work - there might have been no clever animation (infact the effects are pretty awful!) - but Max was mesmerised.
