Looking at nature everything is cyclical – through the seasons, from birth to death, from imagination through to manifestation. You can guarantee what part of the cycle is next, can’t you? Autumn always comes after summer, never the other way around?  The parts of the cycle are intrinsic and not voluntary or avoidable – well, not in our current understanding of Universal Laws. So is it possible that recession is a natural part of a financial cycle?Michael A Alexander, author of the Kondratiev Cycle, believes so. He has done extensive research on this. Looking at the years since industrialisation his research has become increasingly complex and he has recognized 18 year cycles within real estate slumps for example, denoted as the Ku...

In the middle of the economic downturn and Barack Obama’s election as the President of the United States, many of us were glued to the fashion commentary on Michelle Obama’s sense of style!   There is no denying; fashion is an important part of a girl’s life. However, with the recession, threat of cutbacks and layoffs, and general sense of gloom and doom, what is a girl to do? Turn into a recessionista!  A recessionista is woman who manages to dress stylishly on a tighter budget during these strained times…essentially a positive spin on a difficult economic situation. There are plenty of ways to become a recessionista – all you have to do is follow the many cheerful tips and blogs out there-  DIY projects, how to find the best ...

The new cereal from Lloyds TSB Will give you wings and set you free One bowl every morning will make it sure That your credit rating will be nice and pure It’ll clense debit and credit cards Stop constipation, make it hard For generous spending to take its place For the greedy wallets of the human race. Three bowls a day will guarantee Eternal love and frugality It’ll freeze your assets, posses your home Will ensure your life to be lived alone, You’ll be divorced and celebate, Your outlook will be desolate And all because Lloyds TSB Have introduced Credit Crunchies. I am trying to  have a go  at writing topical poetry, often my inspiration as very observational and reflective  which somewhats li...

I heard yesterday that Kevala - one of the world's longest established and best loved therapy training schools - has ceased training. I was briefly Principal when the school, that did most of its training by distance learning across a wide range of holistic disciplines, was based in Torquay. It was there too that collaborative song 'The Moon (Kevala Whispers)' was written. It's one thing to hear of lay-offs and closures in the globalised business environment, but another to feel the recessionary pinch closer to home among smaller scale enterprises that I trust in some way are changing the world for the better. And my concern intensified this morning as I heard of the closure of another apparently life-enhancing organisation - The Li...

Most Indians complain about the imperfections of the Indian systems. The wealth does not trickle down; the schemes and the programmes of the western world can't have a similar success here; the stock market.... and the list is endless. They said "But that is happening in Delhi and Mumbai and the US right?" I asked the local shopkeepers too and took the effort of explaining the meaning of recession in the local language to them. They also seemed quite unaffected.   In fact one of them asked. "But haven't the times improved?" I was taken aback and asked him t...
