It is truly a wonderful thing when you find a perfect pair of jeans. You know what I mean? The ones that fit you so perfectly, that hug your body in the right areas, but not too tightly. They feel like you are truly in your own element when you wear them. It is almost as if they are part of your body. With these jeans adorning your lower half, you look and feel great. Only such a wonderful experience can make us search so hard. Jeans such as these are not usually an easy find. Entering a dressing room with an armful of jeans, you spend the next half hour trying on pair after pair. These don't quite fit right. These are obviously not the right size. Yikes! These feel okay, but the color of them is somehow strange. You think this pair w...

"Our job in this lifetime is not to shape ourselves into some ideal we imagine we ought to be, but to find out who we already are and become it." Steven Pressfield in The War of Art. I just finished the book, The War of Art, by Steven Pressfield, and this quote traveled with lightening speed from my reading eyes straight to my heart. It turns out my mom was right all along when she reminded me to 'just be myself'. It is so easy for us to get caught up in trying to be who others want us to be, who we think we SHOULD be, and in trying to be someone who is completely different than we are. Often times we act a part so much that we even forget who we really are or perhaps we never even take the opportunity to find out. Then we wonder wh...

Today I had the opportunity to discuss personal missions, talents, gifts and purpose today with my 9-year-old Sunday School students. We talked about Moses and various other people from the Bible and about their personal life missions--how their gifts, talents and experiences prepared them for the things they were to do, how they had little faith in their abilities in the beginning, how their faith AND their abilities grew over time with the help of God, and the differences they made in the lives of others. Of the many valuable gems of wisdom found in these stories, two things really stood out for me in our discussion that I wanted to share with you. The first thing is that as each of us shares our talents and gifts with others, we mak...

Last week I was listening to a very interesting book on CD called, The Science of Getting Rich, by Wallace Wattles. This is a very old book (published in 1910) about just what it says in the title...getting rich. And while this sounds kind of trite, this book has many interesting points in it that can be applied to much more than just getting rich.  While I was listening away in my car on the way to pick up my kids from school, the narrator said, "what you want, wants you even more." I had heard this said before, but I never really paid attention to it. It was as if I had heard it for the first time and I couldn't stop repeating it for a full two days. The reason it sticks out to me now I think is because I have been thinking a lot l...

What if you believed that your primary business is to be your true, authentic self?  And what if you could then express that self by doing things you love to do?  What if you learned more about what makes a business successful and, like a commercial business person does, created a strategic plan for your life, put systems in place to execute that plan, got the help you needed to succeed at it and created a series of outcomes that could be measured and duplicated? Does that sound sort of cold and too "business-like?"  Then let's add in the more juicy ingredients:  fulfilling work, artistic or creative expression, time for family, friends, fun activities.  All those could be integrated into your strategic plan.  What a concept! B...

We often find ourselves asking the question, "what's in it for me?" Naturally we want to know how we will benefit from whatever it is we are considering whether it be a relationship, a career opportunity, a product or service, etc. Not only is this part of our hard wiring, but it is also taught, conditioned, and nourished among the culture of humanity. In fact, whether you realize it or not, this question may have been and/or currently is your approach to life in general. It is the perverbial "search for happiness." We are always looking to find fulfillment. The problem is that so many never really do find it and if they do, it is not lasting. Why is that? Is it wrong to want to be happy? Of course not. But perhaps we are going about it ...

What is intuition? The dictionary definition of intuition is “immediate apprehension by the mind without reasoning.”  That means: what you immediately receive or understand before your busy mind begins adding beliefs, thoughts, feelings and what it already knows, to the information you are receiving. How? What? Where? You are an infinite being connected to all things through all time and space, despite anything you may think. As an infinite being, you have access to extraordinary gifts, abilities and information, one of them is intuition – an ability that enables you to gather information on any topic you can come up with, without using your thinking brain. Everyone has intuitive ability, including you!  Who can say where ...

As I grew up my understanding of love was that it was a feeling of peace, connection and timeless flow that lifted one's spirits to soaring heights. However, on a more practical level, based on the fact that I loved my parents, love was an evolving package of mixed emotions that I experienced when I loved someone else whose mood kept changing. If you truly love someone you will accept any emotional state that they experience – and deal with consequences of any actions that result from it.At a less technical level – unconditional love has no bounds.I have often contemplated what love is and had some very different insights and opinions on the subject as time evolved. A friend once told me that it was a short-term hormonal imbalance. Whils...

What would you be prepared to do for your friends? For those who have read the E-Myth - I wandered into the world of business after having an Entrepreneurial seizure. For those who haven't read the E-Myth - I decided to sack my boss and march into the world of business with no training or experience of what happens next. I knew that I could provide excellent services and that I would be better at it when freed from the dogma of other people's perceptions of how I should go about my business.  The reality was that I had no idea of what running a business was and spent over two years in the very harsh school of the idiots guide of how not to run a business. Indeed, I didn't even have a business as all of my services could only be perform...
