Note:  I originally wrote this in May, 2010, and hadn't posted it on Copperstrings.  Since I wrote another post on a similar subject, I went back and decided to add this one to my Journals. Today I learned that Hollis Burns, a guy I knew in high school who was sixty-three years old died yesterday.  He had apparently played golf Sunday afternoon and gone home, and was found sitting in a chair holding a newspaper.  This guy looked healthy the last time I saw him.  He was only a year older than I.  It made me think about how little control we actually have over our lives.  We think we control things, we think we make things happen.  But do we really? How much of what we experience is beyond our influence?  Did Hollis have a fear of d...

I've been thinking about dying lately.  People in Japan are facing death as I write this.  One woman talked about her father being employed at a nuclear power plant, and he was staying to try to minimize the damage because he already knew he wasn't going to get out of there alive. Ten years ago, people in the towers in New York faced death with no recourse, and from all accounts, they bravely did everything they could. And I have clients come to me so depressed, so distraught with how things are going in their lives that they wish they could just die. I've felt that way myself.  A couple of years ago, facing my worst financial disaster, part of me just wanted to die so I wouldn't have to feel so much shame and pain. And we watch ...

Occasionally, life presents challenging circumstances that would test even the most spiritual of individuals. When my bag was stolen on Saturday night, along with my video camera, personal items, money and coat, I was tested. The day had started so well. I'd been to a wonderful event; Living a Charmed Life by Art Giser. I had needed my video camera to do some filming there. As I was in central London I did not have the chance to go home before meeting a few friends for a birthday celebration at a bar/restaurant, near Kings Cross. Being a trusting individual I put my bag, which was pretty bulky, very near to where I was standing and proceeded to enjoy a good evening out. A few hours later when I went to leave, my bag had disappeared...

http://gomestic.com/do-it-yourself/make-your-own-coffee-table/ The article above demonstrates how I save the material from wind damaged trees and build something good from it. I have salvaged over 1,000 trees in the last eight years. I have to admit, not every tree will be worth $1,600 because of the way the wind blows it down splitting it or cracking it badly and not all trees are suitable for the projects shown in the link above. For eco conscientious  people this is a pleasant way to use your hobby time with a very small outlay of tools. All of my tools were bought on sale and one or two projects paid for my entire shop. Take a look, if you like what you read in the link, click the I Like button. Dr Robert E McGinnis http://w...

Several years ago, I wrote a book for my children. this is but one out of hundreds. Beyond our genetic limitations, we may have a lot of say so over our aging process. This process started long before we were born and, physically, will terminate about the same time we do. However, what happens during the time between your birth and demise may have a lot to do with how long you live. There are many who espouse the principal of exercise, hard work, etc, and then we have those who depend on a good and steady diet of healthy foods. Is this enough? Is this necessary, or is something missing? What if, and I only suggest, what if, it is our outlook, attitude and relationships that give us the greatest strength in a long and very happy li...

This may sound like a strange question to ask since you are alive enough to read this but why did it capture your attention? Did you know that many people are more dead than alive in their daily existence? Having worked as a nurse for over 13 years, studying health and wellbeing for over 18 years and working with thousands of people who were ill, I realised two incredible facts. The first is that most people who end up in hospital, especially with progressive illness, have spent much of their life dying from within. They have low energy that has been blocked and/or drained for several years before ever ending up in hospital. What would you do if you had more energy? Certain things can happen as a result of having more energy. You...

This week has provided me with a few challenges.  I lost months of work in one fell swoop when my computer crashed. Having not backed up my system this meant that I lost all of my music, videos, photos, products, e-books and documents. This constituted several thousand hours of work and memories saved onto my hard drive. Apart from the loss of my work came the added expense of replacing my computer. This served as a hard hit initially. It is fair to say that it took a few days to fully process the learnings of this. Then I had my epiphany.... All of my life I have had great ideas and been good at carrying them out to about 80% of completion before a much better idea comes along and shifts my attention in another direction. Althou...

Occasionally I have one or both of my nephews around to stay with me at the weekend, they are currently aged 5 and 7. This usually gives me the opportunity to regress a bit and have a lot of fun.I get to play games and eat unhealthily for a day or two whilst they get the freedom to do pretty much what they like. As they are not ready to own the merits of eating healthily I have adopted their mentality whilst they are staying. Meanwhile, I get to pick their brains for the pearls of wisdom that they occasionally present. I have a habit of asking them questions that I have yet to find an answer to and indeed probably never will. "What is the key to the universe?" and "What is the secret to life?" are things I have pondered for many...

For me, there is no one particular approach or technique in discovering how to become master of my spiritual destiny.  As a matter of truth, I have not really mastered any one thing fully.  Every day, every situation in some way is the same yet in some ways, different, so...  What I have done though is become better in some things today and I was say, a couple of months ago, a year ago, 10 years ago or even a lifetime(s) ago.  My reminder is, "A little progress in many areas is better than no progress in most."  I do have some spiritual exercises and techniques that I diligent and consciously practice on a daily basis (http://www.BeeBlessedDaily.com).  Some of them I practice when I'm in the midst of one of life's challenges have a...
