At midnight today I donned a dress, make-up and a wig and joined about a thousand others for a 10 mile walk around St Albans for the local hospice, Grove House. My sister enthusiastically took up the opportunity to transform my looks! The full moon and warm evening added to an already great event. Men were allowed to join as long as they got into the spirit. After all, it was a women's walk. Grove House provides a fantastic service to the community and has particular poignance to me as they looked after my grandad during his final weeks with cancer a few years ago. What worked really well was the fun and spirit that was apparent from the very start to the end. One other chap even dared to walk in high heels, getting over half way before ...

I had never been burgled before. When I returned home earlier I walked in to find the back door of the house had been kicked through and was broken in half. It came as a surprise. What does one do in such situations? Glass and wood debris lay in the house and out. The mangled lower half of the door was hanging by the hinge. I have had many more pleasant experiences in my time. A few hours later I had a door in place and a great deal of gratitude for what has just happened. Although the assailants had broken the back door they had largely left the house alone. The contents of one of the draws had been emptied onto the bed and a small amount of money had been taken. Amongst the contents on the bed were a few envelopes of gratitude notes th...

What would you be prepared to do for your friends? For those who have read the E-Myth - I wandered into the world of business after having an Entrepreneurial seizure. For those who haven't read the E-Myth - I decided to sack my boss and march into the world of business with no training or experience of what happens next. I knew that I could provide excellent services and that I would be better at it when freed from the dogma of other people's perceptions of how I should go about my business.  The reality was that I had no idea of what running a business was and spent over two years in the very harsh school of the idiots guide of how not to run a business. Indeed, I didn't even have a business as all of my services could only be perform...

Grow in your sleep presents walk innovation in south London. Grow in your sleep was born in Zakynthos in Greece alongside advanced serendipity, which evolved into Walk Innovation.  It started with three friends, who were at a crossroads in their lives.  We did lots of walking, talking, keeping journals and having lots of fun.  What came out of this special place and journey is a new vision called walk innovation. Adam first tried out this walking and coaching method on me in the lovely mountains of Zakynthos.  When Adam first told me about his vision, I was not convinced and can be a very hard woman to please and get on board with new ventures.  I have done the motivational speaking conferences, network marketing meetings...

The Obesity Crisis   The obesity crisis is now reaching epidemic proportions.  I have been working in the health service for the past twenty years and have seen a rise in weight related illnesses and the problems that it courses.  Back in the 1970s, there were only a few people who where over weight.  People used to consume more calories back then, but did more manual labour, such as washing by hand, walking to the shops and walking back with heavy shopping.  More people cycled to work and children would walk to school.  Many people had their own allotments and gardens and would grow their own vegetable.  We would eat food that was fresh and in season.  Now food is transported thousands of miles around the world, which lo...

Could there be a worse time to resign from a well-paid job in order to follow my heart, conscience and intuition, and trust that everything will work out? Probably not. Have we, the human race, got time to waste - in the face of environmental, economic and social catastrophe? I think not. When I took on my most recent and lucrative contract, I made a verbal agreement with my employer that I would leave if it ever felt like a job. It did, so I've just quit. Whilst doing that job (co-creating this very site), it became clear that we are on the edge of potentially disastrous global changes, that through denial and despair, we are hopelessly failing to address. I'm now in no doubt that we are past choice. In essence, we (in ...

In May 2008, an irate reader wrote on the discussion pages of the Hair Color that the article did not provide her adequate information on organic or natural hair color. Even as we addressed her concern, we realised that many of our other articles might be suffering from the same problem. By then we had over 1000 articles, some of which were very long. The problem arose again when we needed to explain the kind of articles we were looking for to contributors. Some contributors asked us what a CopperWiki article should include.  As we tried to convey, we fumbled with words or in my case used too many words to explain, until both the person who was hearing me and I myself looked slightly ill at ease. Something needed to be done but w...

Following up my previous journal on letters to yourself, I remembered too late that I should have suggested putting your thoughts and feelings, and hopes and aspirations, down in a letter to be opened by yourself sometime after 2012 – the magical year of transition, according to Mayan belief. ~ Now that I’ve happily set that troubling item down I now want to suggest to you the possibility of Guerrilla Postcarding: A means of spreading fun and delight around the world, all for the cost of a second class stamp. I’ve nursed this idea for a while, ever since I discovered a collection of postcards compiled by former Beatle, Ringo Starr, from a time when the Fab Four were on good terms and kept in touch with the other...
