My insight into happiness

I had an interesting insight the other day that I'd sort of known for several years but I just 'got' it at a deeper level. And it all came about as I was due to go out and spend the day fronting a stand at an event at Olympia.
I'd promised to help an event organiser company and strut a little of my Tarot stuff - in other words I'd offer to do little bite size readings for people as they came to his stand. Makes it memorable and interesting and I wanted to do my bit. Anyway, before I left my home I realised that I had one horribly bloodshot eye - seriously bloodshot. My mood went down. I wondered how could I entertain, be psychic, smile and be happy looking like someone had poked something very sharp in my vulnerable eye?
A moment of reflection and I got this understanding that I'm still the same person, bloodshot eye or not. My ability to read Tarot is the same, my compassion and understanding is the same...and so why would I be concerned about something so minor on the outside?
I thought of how easily my mood can shift...depending on where I place my attention...and then I got it! My happiness really should depend on me alone - not what I look like or what I think other people might be assuming about me. I realised that true peace comes from knowing that my happiness is generated by me, and that my greatest goal can be to choose happiness no matter what. To allow myself to shine no matter what is going on externally.
This thought process really changed the flavour of my day. I had an exceptional day at Olympia. When I got home I thought I'd see both eyes crystal clear as I'd had no sense of discomfort at all - but my left eye was even worse! But the good thing is it never had any power of the day I chose to have.
