Are you doing what you love? Think about what you did naturally as a child and you will often find the answers to what you life purpose is.
From a very young age, I have always been upside down, climbing trees, doing handstands, cartwheels and contorting myself into different positions. I remember starting off doing gymnastics when I got into the infants and really enjoyed that. Then at the age of twelve, I got into yoga. This was very unusual back in the early eighties as yoga was seen a weird thing for aging hippies. I just remember being given a yoga book from my Aunty that she picked up form a jumble sale and thought it might interested me.
The lady in the book had a number of brown and green all in one leotards, which did not really leave anything to the imagination, very eighties and very retro. I am an only child and spent a lot of time on my own in my bedroom. So I looked at the book and was amazed at the postures that his lay got into and started to do some yoga every night. I started to get very toned and flexible and like the way it made me feel. Then Mad Lizzie and the Green Goddess came onto the scene and lots of people started to do regular exercise in the morning before work and school. Then Mr Motivator came bursting onto the scene.
My friends where laughing at me recently as I am now doing aerobics as part of my course and got one of his old workout videos to get some ideas for my workouts. Then a month late Mr Motivator was back. More dodgy leotards, but it became his trademark. Now in the year 2009, I am now wearing eighties clothes to exercise in and blaring out the eighties vibe. Never thought the eighties would be cool again, but my young clients love it. My friend also loves the eighties vibe.
Check out Alison and Sid’s exercise sessions on www.livewellBhappy website. Going back to yoga. I keep going back to it at different stages in my life and it has helped me to get through some very tough times. It brings back my sense of self and grounds me.
I will always have yoga as part of my life. I am now a Pilates teacher and really love teaching Pilates and incorporate yoga in all of my classes as it is so much of a big part of me. For details of my Pilates classes please check out www.healingpath.co.uk for my Mondays which a small groups of three. Many people have asked me why I have not become a yoga teacher and I feel at this present moment in time that it has always been something that helps me to connect with myself and keeps me grounded.
I am going on a lovely yoga retreat in a few weeks time in Turkey and look forward to what new things I will learn. Yoga is not about getting flexible and getting the body beautiful, but getting touch with your inner self and learning to get to that quiet space. It is something that has to be tried to understand what I mean.
